I had to read other peoples' reviews before I could review this one myself because I couldn't put into words how I feel about it. And I still can't really. I agree with others that the relationship between Becky and her husband is so real and emotional and hit me so hard that I feel weird about giving it only 4 stars. However, there were enough parts in the book that made me feel uncomfortable that I just couldn't give it 5. I laughed a lot during this book, and also cried harder than I have in a while at another part. I LOVE Shannon Hale's writing style so I don't think there is anything she could write that I wouldn't love in some way. But sometimes when a book is so easy to relate to (even if you haven't run off with someone besides your spouse) it sticks with you in a not so good way that makes you wonder if you should have read it or not. That's how I'm feeling. I loved it, but also can't decide if maybe I shouldn't have read it. We'll give it a few days to settle in before I decide.
It's my book, I should give it five stars, right?
I had friends who hated this book when they read it in high school, but I really liked it. I liked all of the metaphors used to describe and I also liked the structure. Instead of a long chapters that tell a piece of the story, this book is set up in very short chapters that each describe something or tell a very short story.
