Not the best in the series, but still enjoyable. I found it a little disjointed, and even though (I believe) it's the first in the series, it felt like a lot of the characters were "shorthanded," as though the author was thinking, "Oh, if they've read the other books in the series they already know what this character is like, I don't need to go into detail." The plot was also a little helter skelter and doesn't resolve itself as well as a mystery should.
Sharyn McCrumb is a wonderful storyteller. She shared several stories from the Civil War wrapped inside a "modern" story.
