Loved this! Aptly describes the paradox of womens unique and beautiful gifts to humanity (childbearing) and the oppression they suffer because of it.

a great modern re-telling of Hamlet from Ophelia's point of view. She's fleshed out and her actions and motivations are believable.

This was the best book I have read in a long time. I didn't want it to ever end. This is the story of pioneer wife, Mattie Spencer during her life on the prairie. It's written in the form of Mattie's diary where she secretly kept all her inner-most thoughts as well as accounts of her daily life. Mattie is a typical young woman of her time, when she is suddenly proposed to by the most eligle bachelor of her Iowa town. She accepts and they head west to his claim on the prairie. Life is harsh, but she makes the best of things, trying to keep a cheerful outlook as is fitting a dutiful wife of that time. Along the way there is great joy, crushing heartbreak, and a few deep dark secrets that are uncovered by this trusting innocent. The end was very satisfying, and I found myself in that happy childhood place where, when I read the last paragraph, asked "Then what happened?"
