I've been working my way throught all the Newberry Award winning books. Since this film is about to come out I thought it was time I read it again (it's been about 17 years). It was just as good the second time around.
This was one of the worst books I have ever read. I feel stupider for having finnished the entire thing.
I normally don't re- read books, because I know what happens and it seems boring when I read it again. But that is not the case here. I began re- reading the series and it is just fantastic. I love this book and the world that exists in it and I wish that I could just live in it! (if it weren't for the fact of how dangerous it is...
Wickett's Remedy was a tremendous adventure in literature. It was one of the most inventive books I've ever enjoyed, with probably only The Sound and The Fury surpassing it. I was a huge fan of Myla Goldberg's Bee Season. With that book I became convinced she was highly skilled at character creation and world building, but I was worried that if she ventured into historical fiction her writing would lose some of it's power. It was a needless fear. She's truly a great writer. I stopped short of five stars because the ending dissapointed me a bit, but I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone into historical fiction, the city of Boston, medicine, world-threatening plagues, Irish culture, women writers, and a ton of other people.
I laughed out loud. I cried. I was emotionally involved in this book. I connected with Henry, I connected with Clare. Audrey Niffenegger wrote a fantastic book. The characters were so real and their life stories so well built, it was easy to overlook the fact that time travel is fictional. I enjoyed this from beginning to end, although it took me months to actually get up the courage to read the end of the book. I will reccomend this book to anyone who loves a good love story, a good fiction, or just a good book.
