Read this for my sexual ethics class. Nelson is WAY out of left field, but has some very interesting things to add to debates about the morality of sex, masturbation, and homosexuality and how the church, specifically Protestant (he has this nasty habit of villifying Catholics), reacts and, in his opinion, ought to react.

I really like this series and this book moved the characters along to a new level. I will say that this is the first time in this series that I've gotten to the end and not rushed to get the next book, but I do plan to read the next book sometime in the next few months. :) Any time you have a long series like this one, there's a certain amount of time spent filling in the gaps between significant events, and this book often felt like it was serving that purpose. The good news is that it does that very well and is still a very enjoyable read. I really liked the transitions that the side characters go through and they are very relatable. I also found Claire's character much more relatable in this book than in previous books in the series. However, Jamie, Brianna, and Roger continue the trend in this series of being a bit over the top and somewhat unrelatable with Brianna being the worst of them all. The history, language, and medical aspects of the book are some of the best in the whole series. I really enjoyed the addition of the American Indian history on top of the Scottish history from the first books. I'm still looking forward to reading the next book in the series and hoping that Gabaldon allows her main characters to mature a bit more and to employ a bit more common sense at times so that I'm not shaking my head quite so much at the extraordinary way they handle basic situations.
