The first thing that I noticed about this book was the colors- all black and white except with little details of red. I LOVE that! IT makes the story so much more appealing to me for some reason. The message of this book is simple, just accepting things (no matter how odd they may be) that your children do. The end is really sweet when Olivia bonds with her mother. ANy little girl will love this book because Olivia is such a girly girl, like trying on a million outfits and staring at pictures of ballerinas.

A hunted book about ex-friend and a ghost trying to bring the two back together. Fun and scary read.

I was so looking forward to reading this book. After all, it's been years since I Know This Much Is True was released; I was chomping at the proverbial bit to read new Wally Lamb. Unfortunately, I couldn't get through this book fast enough. I struggled with the main character, Caelum Quirk. It's hard to meet an English teacher you're not sure you like. He is a man of questionable character, to say the least, and I often found myslef asking, "Why is he bahving this way???" I couldn't understand/relate to his motivations in life. I did like how Lamb wove in pivotal historic events: Columbine, 9/11, Hurrican Katrina. These events provided richness and depth to the story. His critique of the women's prison system is eye-opening and sharp. Ultimately, I felt like Lamb was trying to do too much, though. The characters felt out of control at times. The religious aspects seemed forced and gratuitous. I am glad I read the book, but no in the way that I had hoped. (sigh)
