Too many pages in between good bits, and I can't even remember any of the stuff I almost liked five minutes after finishing the book.

granted, this is another one i read online at work, but i found it hard to read. though to be fair, it's not no plot and it was probably not meant for leisure reading. i read it just so i could say i did.

don't get me started. this should be a great socioeconomic exploration but really it's just barbara e. massaging her own ego. "i may have been cleaning a toilet but LITTLE DID THEY KNOW WHO I AM, blah blah blah". she can't deflate her ego long enough to really let us experience what the working class do. holy rich woman's burden.

Orson Scott Card waited over a decade between Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow, which takes up the character of Bean who was a minor figure in the original book. In that time it's clear that Card's talent as a writer grew a great deal. Where Ender's Game frequently reminded me of Harry Potter, if Rowling had only talked about Quidditch matches, Ender's Shadow builds character and relationships for the figures in it. The writing is more graceful, more descriptive, and you care about the people in the book in a way you never did in Ender's Game. While it's probably not popular opinion, I think this is far superior to the book that launched the series. The sequels to it are another matter.

I have a new favorite author! After reading Dragon Bound I had to read Storms Heart and I am loving it!
