I finished this yesterday waiting for the bus; I have the feeling that this is one of the books that will carry the experience of reading it with it. I loved "Combray", after I allowed myself to slow down enough to accept what it is; "Swann in Love" was less steeped in memory of sense, and more driven by narrative, which was such a shift, then the third section returned to memory, this time of childhood in Paris, again requiring submission to Proust's memory. I'm looking forward to more Proust, but I think I'll take a break. I think I'm also going to take a look around at other translations - I currently have Lydia Davis's on my shelf; if anyone has any comments or suggestions about the various translations, please let me know.
