If you liked 84 Charing Cross Road, you'll probably like this story in letters of the occupation of the island of Guernsey by the Germans during WWII and the woman who comes to the island to research a story and stays to meet the oddball and interesting assortment of inhabitants.

There are a lot of Crutcher books, but I have only read this one so far. I had heard of it from other teachers in my school who were introducing YA lit into their curriculum. I really enjoyed this story. It has funny, interesting, human characters as well as a plot with a tad of mystery and some great action at the end. My students really like this one because the story is emotional for the girls and has some great action parts for the guys. The discussion of abortion and child abuse can be a little touchy, but it is good for teens to explore these topics (as long as the teacher makes it a safe place to do so, of course).
