One of my all-time favorites, this is a collection of 11 short stories all centered around gruesome and gory accounts of what can only be defined as really strange people. My favorite chapter is Slaughter of the Lamb, where a woman kills her husband with a frozen leg of lamb, and then feeds the investigating police the evidence for dinner. Very creepy, very gross, very fun to read.
This book is about a girl named Bella, who moved to forks, to live with her dad. She meets many people including Edward Cullen. As she and Edward gain trust and fall in love, Bella learns that she lives in a world with more then just regular species. This world is very dangerous for her to be involved in, but she doesn't seem to care.
This is an astonishing book - marvelously written, fascinating in its historical detail, and written about one of the first international events that came clearly to my consciousness - the wresting away from colonial rule of (the Belgian) Congo. This book teaches, and it also haunts.
