Truong Bao Bao من عند Rangadughati, Andhra Pradesh, الهند
I really enjoyed this fast, easy read. I had already seen the movie (which I also liked), and my only disappointment was that the book wasn't markedly better than the movie. :)
This book was so funny, but beyond that it made me so envious of Novella's aptitude for all things farming. I loved how quirky she and her neighborhood were- she befriends a homeless man living in a car on her street... she decides to do most everything on a whim then commits 1,000%. I appreciated her humanizing tone- she is ever compassionate and giving toward people, the animals she cares for then eats, and even the plants in her garden. The writing was superb- comical and poetic in all the right places. It made me glad to know that this was memoir and not fiction- people like Novella are priceless. About a year in the life of Novella and growing urban farm, located on an empty lot in a rough neighborhood.
