I loved this book and I can't wait to read the next one in the series!
Another great novel from Joe Lansdale. He doesn't hesitate to dive into the deep end when it comes to gruesome crimes, and despicable characters. The protagonist is likable, and Lansdale seems to have a knack for first-person narrative. Some great plot twists are incorporated, making this a good murder-mystery suspense story.
i interviewed Anne Fadiman for my Hmong Women's Book Club the year this book came out. our group was initially split between those who liked it and those who didn't. after the interview, everyone agreed, this book was a blessing. fadiman's sincerity always rang true to me, but upon meeting her and hearing of her passion for this story, i was able to convince everyone else as well. i am thankful this book exists and has received all the popularity and recognition that it has. it counters all the other books about the Hmong (written by non-hmong) that lack her compassion and wit.
