Fantastic sequel to Daemon! If you thought the first book was good, you'll be blown away by this one. People switch sides, even more technology, and an overall awesome story.
I've been told by academics that I shouldn't waste my time with 'popularizations' of extremely complicated scientific works. Leave the science to the scientists. After reading this thing (which is a fairly low-to-the-ground popularization of an extremely complicated and hard-to-grasp subject) I think they may have been right. This book could have been subtitled 'Superstring Theory For Dummies.' I twisted my understanding of the world into knots trying to get through it, then spent a good amount of time afterwards putting my brain back together. Reading this was like going on a month-long multi-chemical bender: I can't begin to explain what happened, but it made sense to me at the time.
The only thing I can recall from reading these books is that in one of them, Ramona's mom gets really mad at Ramona's dad for forgetting to turn on the crock pot before they left for work. So there was nothing to eat for dinner. SAD.
There's not much I can say about this book that hasn't already been said.... Tolstoy's characters are always stunning in their humanity and he portrays life in a way that is remarkable in its simplicity and depth. Highly recommended, and worthy of several reads.
This one was OK--it really was a bit too repetitive for my tastes.
