This book offers what I found to be fascinating insight into the mind of the author, the autistic savant mentioned in the title. As one who has always been pretty good at math, it was interesting to hear the author explain how his brain functions on an entirely different level.
‘In the silence of night, sounds of life have a greater chance of being heard.’ Promise Dayton is a talented young vocalist afflicted with cystic fibrosis. Promise is trying to establish herself so that fame will keep her memory alive once she is dead: her life may be shortened, but she wants to make an impact. By contrast, Porta Cerreto is an aging witch and collector of art in search of immortality. Promise can sing, and she also models for artists, but it is her survival after a series of accidents that draws the most attention - including the attention of Porta, who believes that Promise may be the one who can help her achieve immortality. Chase Ellis is a gifted artist who becomes attracted to Promise, and he seeks to protect her from Porta. Chase is autistic and his drawings and dreams fascinate Promise (and others). Where Porta absorbs darkness, Chase reflects light. The battle is joined and while the ending may be predictable, there are a few twists in the tale. This novel is categorised as Christian Suspense, and I suspect that it will appeal most to those who see a religious element to the battle between good and evil. I enjoyed some elements of the story, but did not particularly care for the ending. ‘Unearth your truth.’ Note: I was offered, and accepted, a copy of this book for review purposes. It is quite good with lots of funny words about strange monsters.
