I have totally been slacking on putting up a review for this book. I should have done it long ago, but it just means so much to me, that it is hard to put into words. Alas, I will start from the beginning. My entire life, I had read books. I followed the Harry Potter series, and I had read some assorted 'serious' novels. However, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man was my first classic. It entirely opened my eyes to literature. The rich beautiful prose, the seemingly simple story turning increasingly more complex at every turn; I was sucked in. I'm not going entirely in depth but I will say a few things. After this book, I fell in love with the writing of James Joyce. It is so deliberate, yet contains infinite beauty and complexity. He is a master of the English language. Joyce's ideas are as brilliant as his writing. The time he spends discussing the church are entirely captivating as in the section near the end where young Stephen expounds on his aesthetic theory. Please, if you love literature, or want to love it, read this book.

I could tell by reading this that it's definately one of Vonnegut's earlier works, but I still loved it. I love how it concluded, finding out life on earth's entire purpose. Here's the quote that I haven't been able to get out of my head: "Rented a tent, a tent, a tent Rented a tent, a tent..." Only in a Vonnegut novel would that be normal!
