I had this book in my kindle over a couple of years afraid to read it. Finally selected for the book club. It is a great book, well done well written. Part were hard to read, but I had a hard time putting it down. Remarkable what he went through, remarkable what humans can endure and what humans can do to each other. Louis had an almost photographic memory, I'm surprised the level of detail he was able to remember. I hah thought he had been forgotten after the war. I was surprised to learn he was hailed as a hero through tout his life. It is a little weird, his fellow life radar survivor and friend and pilot did not have near the attention or accolades. It was definitely worth reading. I was glad Laura talked about bird, it was interesting to see how he justified himself. Not easy to see how the POWs were able to forgive.
