I think it is rare to read a memoir that is honestly told without a trace of self-pity. Often, memoirs like The Glass Castle leave me depressed and vaguely angry, but Jeannette writes with a sincerity and truthfulness that leaves you feeling honored to have read the book, but devoid of suicidal urges. She also leaves you longing to be a much better writer.
I do love the Enola Holmes series and this one did not disappoint. Great character. Great plot. I love the detials of life for Victorian women- the languages of flowers and fans are absolutely intriguing.
Captivating, horrifying, inspiring. I couldn't put it down and it haunted me for quite some time.
