The first third of this book is ridiculous and feels as though it is pandering to all of the hopes and dreams of it's teenage readers, but then... Pow! It gets really good. You be the judge.
This was a surprising read. I found myself cheering one minute, and crying the next. I just couldn't stop reading. The world Roth has built in this book reminds me of Atwood's in A Handmaid's Tale. It's so unique and imaginative. There's non-stop action that's similar to Hunger Games with a romance that's genuine and doesn't dominate the plot of Roth's story. I would recommend this book to all YA lovers who don't shy away from a violence.
The last book that I have in the Judy Moody series. :( It's sad. Makes me wish I collected all of them when I was younger. I wouldn't even DARE buying them now. Priced at P500? Dear Lord. Everything was better when I didn't know the price of money. Makes me feel grateful that I had parents who were well-off enough to provide me with things like these. Thanks, dad. Thanks, mom. I think this was my least favorite book from the three books that I own. It didn't really capture me. I couldn't even remember what this book was about, for Pete's sake. I thought this was the book with the Hedda-Get-Betta doll, but it wasn't. I also thought this was the book with the fake arm, but it wasn't. Oops. I guess I just didn't remember anything. I did like the activities that the class were going to do. It was also nice seeing a class where everyone's so comfortable with each other. It makes me wish I went to that school. I don't really remember anything in particular.. The ending, with Judy's friends and her doctor signature was nice and kind of (a bit) heartwarming, though. It showed that Judy's friends really cared about her. I would have liked seeing a bit more of the relationship between Judy and her family, though. It was also nice seeing someone as young as Judy really try her best to achieve her long-term goals. Gives me hope and motivates me, in a way.
As a newly engaged woman without children but looking forward to motherhood I was excited to read this book. A sign that it is good and well written book aside from the author's credentials,is that the author's children wrote a forward about their mother and how loved she made them feel. Both son and daughter knew their mom practiced what she teaches others called intentional parenting. The book is so close to the teachings of my church on parenting with practical advice and examples. Hickem writes a parenting how to with heart and that is highly accessible. Not only does she talk about children's development stages but also the seven intentional motherhood principles as well as how to know when your past is interfering with your ability to parent. Hickem emphasises on knowing or hearing your child, accepting who your child is and to be supportive of their choices. Another major point with intentional parenting is to plan. What you will learn in this book is: how to build companionship and trust, live peacefully in the teen years, maintain your position as parent, develop emotional intelligence and know the difference between control and intention. I look forward to using Hickem's advice when I become a mother. This will be a book I will read agan and again as well as give as a gift in baby showers! It appears a book has finally arrived to use as an instruction book on raising a good, god fearing child that will be a confident happy person!
