What a beautiful historical story about Japanese-American and Chinese-American families during WWII. It takes place during a time period in history that I really don't recall learning much about in school. As families were being torn apart and being sent to Japanese internment camps during a volatile time in history, this story describes the lifelong journey of saying goodbye and searching for loved ones. It is so beautifully written and a wonderful description of a time in history and it's effect on the lives of those affected. It also explores cultural and traditional values that 1st generation Japanese and Chinese Americans struggled with as they acclimated into American culture while feeling alienated by both Japanese/Chinese family members and American society. I recommend it highly and enjoyed the eloquent writing style, especially the dying scene in the end. Excellent!
